Product details description

Gabion walls (wire baskets filled with stone) are flexible, permeable, and incredibly strong. They are excellent for retaining walls, erosion control, and landscaping.

  Step 1: Foundation Preparation

Do not build directly on grass. Dig a trench 4-6 inches deep and compact the soil to create a level, stable base. A woven geotextile fabric should be laid down first to prevent weeds and separate the soil from the stones.

  Step 2: Assemble the Baskets

Lay the galvanized wire mesh flat. Fold the sides up to form a box. Use the lacing wires (included) to tie the edges together. Ensure the diaphragms (internal dividers) are installed correctly; they give the wall its strength and prevent the wire from bulging.

  Step 3: Filling the Baskets

Place the basket in position before filling (moving a full basket is difficult). Fill it with hard, durable rocks (limestone or basalt). Do not use soft sandstone, which crumbles over time. Fill in layers, tapping the stones down to minimize voids.

  Step 4: Stacking and Closing

Once filled, fold over the lid and lace it to the main body. Stack the next layer, ensuring the joints are staggered (like brickwork) for structural integrity.

  Step 5: Backfilling and Vegetation

Backfill behind the wall with gravel for drainage. You can plant vegetation between the stones of the front face for a natural look.
